Founded by Australian-native Brian Smith in 1978, UGG has become a household name in the fashion industry. In the late ‘70s, Smith found himself in Southern California and was inspired by the relaxed California culture. Taking his Australian roots by the love of sheepskin, the UGG brand was born when he started producing sheepskin boots that became an immediate sensation with the laid-back lifestyle.
By the mid-80s, the UGG brand became a staple all over the West Coast, gaining popularity throughout different local and surf shops. The label soon started to evolve from its signature sheepskin boots and started making slippers, clogs and sandals for outdoor activities, still with its iconic sheepskin material. UGGs gained significant traction in the industry and extended overseas in the mid-2000s, taking the label into an international powerhouse.
The UGG brand has since transitioned from a stylish casual line to a premium casual fashion line with its new and innovative silhouettes outside the traditional boot. The label has partnered with many high-profile designers and celebrities, including Jimmy Choo, Swarovski Elements, Tom Brady and more.
