Stussy, often referred to as the original streetwear brand, was founded in 1980 by Shawn Stussy. The company first started off as a Southern California surf brand but has since been adopted by the streetwear and hip-hop culture. The iconic Stussy logo is actually founder Shawn Stussy’s signature, that he used to put on the bottom of surfboards. Stussy also worked with James Jebbia in the early 90s who would, later on, start Supreme in 1994.
Stussy is defined straight from streetwear roots in which the brand highlights military uniform, classic workwear and uses familiar silhouettes in both bold and classic designs. The iconic label has managed to maintain relevance in streetwear even through many different eras and trends in the industry. Staying true to themselves has given them the longevity to last more than 40 years in the harsh streetwear industry.
Stussy has partnered with a long list of top brands to create very sought after collaborations. Collaborations can be seen with Nike, Bape, Cactus Plant Flea Market and many more. Aside from these, founder Shawn Stussy locked in a major collaboration with luxury brand Dior in 2020.
