PUMA x Maison Kitsuné Collaboration Release 3/27
Chelsie Rendon
As spring time approaches, the latest in fashion rolls in as many labels introduce the newest designs and collaborations. Puma follows suit as the footwear and apparel powerhouse introduces their most recent collaborative efforts with the French-Japanese fashion house, Maison Kitsuné. Since 2002, designers Gildas Loaec and Masya Kuroki have offered sophisticated designs and experiences within Maison Kitsuné. Their unique take on fashion combines the styles of Paris with the aesthetics of Tokyo which offer something new to the market. Because of this, many have gravitated to their designs and their following grew organically all over the world. The talents within Maison Kitsuné has expanded into different fields including art and even coffee as the founders have also developed a love for more than clothing. As a way to expand into different projects, Loaec and Kuroki will team up with Puma to showcase exclusive designs that combine both aesthetics.
This capsule highlights Puma athletic DNA with elegant touches commonly seen within Kitsuné’s deliveries. Each design has an overall theme that combines a minimalist style with functionality. In accordance with the theme, the color schemes follow an earthy and tonal palette emphasizing an applicable style for all. A variety of track outfits are highlighted within this collaboration as seen within the T7 Track Top and Pants. These can be paired together as they take on a khaki hue for a more modern touch to the retro pairing. Both garments are constructed utilizing premium cotton for a lightweight and breathable design. White stripes contrast the earthy tone while stitched co-branding find its way within its complexion, including Maison Kitsuné’s signature fox motif. The track suit pieces can also be paired with ready-to-wear staples as the collection also highlights oversized t-shirts. These garments champion the combined branding of Puma and Maison Kitsuné for an exclusive touch.
In addition to the clothing, the collaboration also incorporates footwear- as classic Puma silhouettes are given the Kitsuné touch. The Roma Kitsuné is designed with a monochromatic color palette but is contrasted with a gum outsole. The silhouette is developed with quality fabrication including premium leather uppers and foam cushioning for utmost comfort. Two version of the Ralph Samspson 70s are introduced with completely opposite palettes as one takes on a clean and neutral scheme while the other is met with a striking yellow and deep black. Both silhouettes are constructed with quality leather uppers and a mudguard for water protection. A common theme seen throughout the collaboration, is the use of mudguards- these are very useful in Tokyo and other countries with intense weather conditions. Therefore, mudguards were a key factor when designing the sneakers.
