Air Jordan 7 'White Infrared' Release June 30th

Haven Neiman

When a young Michael Jordan decided to sign with Nike in 1984, nobody knew how this choice would impact the footwear industry. This was the start of the Air Jordan line, and it all started with the iconic Air Jordan 1.

Seven years later, the sixth sneaker in the Air Jordan line, the Air Jordan 6, debuted in 1991. Designed by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield, the silhouette is iconic, incorporating several innovative features that distinguish it from its predecessors. One of the original colorways of the Air Jordan 6 was ‘Black/Infrared.’ With that, the Air Jordan line is re-introducing the ‘Infrared’ colorway, but this time, on the Air Jordan 6’s successor—the Air Jordan 7.

Released in 1992, the Air Jordan 7 was a continuation of the Air Jordan legacy set forth by the iconic Michael Jordan. Drawing inspiration from West African tribal culture, the sneaker was designed by Tinker Hatfield. Specifically, the shoe’s design elements referenced African art, architecture, and tribal patterns. The design made its statement within the entire Air Jordan line, and it gained significant attention during the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Michael Jordan was a member of the Dream Team, receiving the gold medal for Team USA. This pinnacle moment further elevated the Air Jordan 7’s status, making it a highly coveted design. The Air Jordan 7 is also highly recognized for its Nike Huarache technology, capturing a neoprene sockliner and inner bootie that provides a snug and comfortable fit.

Over the years, the Air Jordan 7 has received countless iterations, but the Air Jordan 7 is now receiving the ‘White Infrared’ colorway, a nod to its predecessor. Releasing in grade school and men’s sizing, the Air Jordan 7 ‘White Infrared’ stays true to the silhouette’s original allure, making it an international sensation. Its layered upper is made from leather, while the perforated detailing throughout the silhouette has made an impression. An embroidered Jumpman logo can be found on the sides, while the stretchy neoprene tongue and molded ‘23’ patch decorate the heel. Classic Nike Air branding appears within the sockliner, while the classic lightweight cushioning offers optimal cushioning. A polyurethane midsole is accented with Infrared detailing and reinforced by a translucent rubber outsole.
