NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe 'Archive' Release September 29th

Haven Neiman

American contemporary artist and sculptor Tom Sachs is best known for his elaborate recreations of various modern icons and has mastered concepts of engineering and design when it comes to his craft. Sachs is relentlessly innovative and subversive. His collaboration with athleisure and lifestyle brand Nike started with the Mars Yard series that began over ten years ago. Since he entered the sneaker world, Tom Sachs has created some of the most interesting shoes that anybody has ever seen.

Sachs believes that every sneaker has a personality of its own. He had always wanted to make his own sneaker, and to his personal belief system, he makes no distinction between his art such as sculptures, paintings, and more. Each piece of art he creates contains the same values of transparency. With that, Tom Sachs wanted to make a shoe that wouldn’t be a specific running shoe, but a shoe that could be worn daily for any activity. This desire eventually grew into the NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe. Always looking to keep things as simple as possible, the values of this shoe are simply about having less so that you can do more. Taking on humbler and simpler aesthetics, to Sachs, shoes are the most important part of any outfit. But with that concept in mind, shoes connect you to the earth all while telling your personal story of where you’ve been and where you are going.

The NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe is releasing in an ‘Archive’ colorway. The silhouette is a product of Nike and Tom Sach’s ongoing research into functional everyday footwear. Considered to be a round-the-clock, made-to-last, and built-to-code sneaker, the silhouette takes on a knit upper and spotlights additional suede overlays that reside at the forefoot and heel. The duo of oversized pull tabs is seen at the heel and knit tongue. The entire sneaker rests upon a three-piece molded cupsole paired with a cushioned EVA core. A durable waffle-traction rubber outsole spotlights the rest of the silhouette. Embroidered Nike branding is seen at the heel, while the woven label at the tongue completes the rest of the look.
