First established in 1889 in Detroit, Michigan, Carhartt was established by Hamilton Carhartt with the original name ‘Hamilton Carhartt & Company.’ Within Carhartt’s early beginnings, the label manufactured bib overalls for railroad workers based in Detroit, Michigan. Carhartt always kept durability and high quality in mind when creating their apparel. This concept initially stemmed from the brand’s original slogan in 1889: “Honest value for an honest dollar.” The midwest-born label eventually grew and expanded into several other states and even countries like France, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Carhartt stopped creating just bib overalls in 1970 and transitioned into making different uniforms and essential apparel for United States service members. After this pivotal moment, the brand started working for big box stores and became the go-to brand for blue-collar employees. Shortly after, workwear began to seep into all circles of fashion.
Carhartt crossed over to Europe in the ‘80s thanks to designer Edwin Faeh. His store ‘All American Concept’ received the brand, and it quickly became a hit. Faeh noticed the considerable potential of Carhartt and believed it could grow into something with a more modern and casual approach that wasn’t made just for blue-collar workers but could become worn by people of all careers. After gaining the rights to sell Carhartt under a new label, Carhartt WIP, the label’s growth skyrocketed and quickly expanded into the United States. Carhartt WIP is a contemporary way of living the Carhartt brand. It incorporates signature tailoring that meets the brand’s high quality, durability, and comfort standards. By modifying Carhartt’s core product characteristics for a different audience, the brand remains true to its workwear origins.
Now that this year’s cold weather has mainly passed, Carhartt WIP has introduced its new Spring/Summer ‘22 collection. While maintaining its true workwear nature, Carhartt continues to produce apparel that emphasizes its origins by implementing hard-wearing fabrics and timeless styles. Their classic workwear staples have been treated with lighter hues and unique wash treatments paired with a series of faded pigment dye treatments, all of which display well-loved aesthetics.
Ideal for layering or wearing on its own, the Carhartt WIP Hooded Nelson Sweatshirt is one of the latest arrivals to the Carhartt WIP apparel repertoire. This cotton sweat-cut design features a pigment-dyed aesthetic, contributing to its distinct nature. A kangaroo pocket is placed with ribbed detailing at the cuffs and hem. The drawstring hood contributes to its functionality, while the iconic woven Carhartt WIP label at the chest ties together the design. The Carhartt WIP Detroit Jacket also makes a reappearance. Its original cotton canvas offers durability and comfort, while the rinsed silhouette implements a mesh lining. A corduroy collar and a classic woven logo are placed within the zippered chest pocket, and the front zip closure and adjustable cuffs and hem emphasize the design’s security.
Carhartt WIP’s latest delivery includes a selection of apparel that is perfect for your new seasonal wardrobe.
